UNSD Work Programme on Economic Census
The United Nations Statistical Commission, at its thirty-seventh session in March 2006, endorsed the United Nations Statistics Division’s initiative to promote an integrated approach to compilation of economic statistics. It further recommended that good practices in this area be identified, documented and made available to the interested countries to assist in their practical work.
In view of these tasks, UNSD carried out two workshops devoted to the Economic Census issues and its role
for production of high quality and policy relevant economic statistics and a survey to identify countries’ general policies with regard to the Economic Census and other approaches to compilation of basic economic statistics.
Proceedings of the two workshops will serve as a
basis for the preparation of a technical report on challenges and good practices in Economic
Census to assist countries in further strengthening their national programmes of economic
statistics.
